A bit busy these days... Trying to conclude the OpenID implementation on Registration and Login. For this implementation I will have to make modifications in the database, create corresponding scaffold (EuropeanStartups is being developed in RoR), alter current registration page, probably create Login page and remove login from the header. Since OpenID gem is already installed, back-end code needs to be implemented as well. More or less, this is a small change, still it does require some work. By the way, you will probably notice that home page is now the Advanced view page, and Join now page has a new look.

As I previously stated a few times, registered users' activity will influence his or her status @ EuropeanStartups.com. The way I will evaluate any user's activity in the means of content (comments, posts, etc) is by processing generated RDF's for each entered content and relate it to the other content on the site. Depending how much the post relates to the existing content and how much new it brings to the site will influence its value. Thanks to Calais Web Service, RDF generation is taken care of. What needs to be worked on when I integrate Calais, is to invest a lot of time into SPARQL queries on the existing and ever growing data. The value of the user generated content has to valued at the moment of entry in order to give it current value. I am pretty sure this query might bring a high load to the site, and probably a new server hosting this evaluation web service must be introduced. One server will be enough since Amazon's EC2 can solve the issue of load very efficiently. Still, I must investigate if a Web Service with this functionality already exist.

Researching Calais API. Just wrote a post about it that can be read at the article section.

Later today I will start traversing these posts into RDF, at first manually, and later, hopefully, automatically. I want to find a way to track project's downfalls and impediments.

I have a pretty good idea where I want to go with OpenID and FOAF at this stage. However, I want to keep the idea's entry points open.

Working on FOAF implementation into existing user profiles. Each registered user will have own free FOAF profile that is completely searchable and accesible throughout the Web.
The Friend of a Friend (FOAF) project is creating a Web of machine-readable pages describing people, the links between them and the things they create and do.

This is the very first post about this project. I will slowly involve the readers into the project scope, problematics and complexity of the project, and will allow discussions and comments.
The first stage is implementation of OpenID to EuropeanStartups.com. For those who are new to OpenID, it's the best to start at http://openid.net/.
OpenID is not something that belongs to Semantic Web, but still it does present a step forward from Web 2.0. The reason we are starting with OpenID, is that we are more flexible with our users, and we definitely need that flexibility for what I am trying to accomplish here.
OpenID implementation to EuropeanStartups.com will be developed by my good friend and associate Aleksandar, who will as well keep you posted of his work on this project. Right after OpenID project, we will make the first step into Semantic Web by implementing one RDF methodologies which I will not announce right now. Still, I am sure some can figure out what that might be according to what I have written in the post so far. ;)
